BODEGAS BARREDA

The Barreda family have been making wine since the 18th Century in the town of Corral de Almaguer, 110km south east of Madrid. The winery was built in 1945 by Don Manuel de la Barreda and today his grandson, Juan Manuel, is at the helm.

The vineyards are situated at 700 -780m and the influence of the nearby Cuenca mountains means cooler nights and a ready supply of ground water to combat the high summer temperatures.

Airen and Tempranillo are the major varieties planted with smaller holdings of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano. Harvesting is done exclusively at night to maintain freshness.

Torre de Barreda Tempranillo blends from three vineyards, La Dehesilla, Monte Alto and Pancierto in a 50/50 blend of older non irrigated vineyards and younger irrigated vineyards aged for 6 months in French oak barrique. 4,300 bottles produced.

Barreda have 4.5 hectares of Graciano planted on the irrigated and trellis trained Monte Alto site. Torre de Barreda Graciano is aged for 10 months in French oak barrique. 1900 bottles produced.

The Mono/Stereo range to was launched to appeal to a new, younger audience in Madrid wine bars. They are all made in a fruit driven style and have bright, modern labels. Mono Airen comes from La Mina vineyard planted in 1953, 100% aged in stainless steel and bottled each year in February. Mono Tempranillo comes from 25-year-old vines, 10% aged in old oak barrels for 6 months, 100% aged in stainless steel and bottled each year in February.

Stereo Multivarietal comes from 25-year-old vines, 10% aged in old oak barrels for 6 months. 40% Tempranillo, 40% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
