DOMAINE ANNE ET HERVÉ SIGAUT

Although Anne and Hervé took over the 7-hectare property in 1990, it is only in very recent years that the domaine has undergone a total transformation. Lately, the wines have been amongst the finest in the village as a series of brilliant reviews has attested. They have always had wonderfully sited old vines, but they now work organically from flowering onwards and yields have been significantly reduced. They follow the lunar calendar and, in some of their vineyards, plough by horse.

With minimal intervention in the winery, a judicious usage of new oak and only one racking prior to bottling without fining or filtration, the Sigauts are quietly making some of the most well-defined, thoroughbred wines in Chambolle.

The Chambolle-Musigny, from ten different plots around the village, is typically fresh, bright and elegant. “Derrière le Four”, planted in 1973, behind the church, is darker and more robust. Chambolle “Bussières” planted in 1959 on the Morey side of the village, by 1er Cru Sentiers, is concentrated, plush and mouthfilling. 1er Cru Les Noirots is from 45 year old vines and the stunning 1er Cru Les Sentiers is from vines planted in 1947, just below Bonnes Mares. Morey 1er Cru Millandes is from 40 year old vines just below Clos St. Denis. The vines produce small, concentrated berries, giving a wine of great intensity and class.
